Seeds of Compromise

Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities, but the canaanites were determined to dwell in that land. And it happened, when the children of Isreal grew strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out.
Joshua 17:12, 13

God had commanded the Israelites to “utterly destroy” the Canaanites. Instead, they compromised and used their captives as slave labor (16:10). Soon they began to develop relationships with these non-believers who practiced evil and did not serve God. The result: seeds of destruction were planted. Disobeying God may start out with very small compromises, but small compromises are the seeds of larger sins and eventual personal destruction.

I can’t allow myself to lower my goal of God’s standards and allow compromise to take place.

Jesus, stay close to me, let our love burn brightly. Help me to stay focused on Your standards. In Your precious name. Amen.
