“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 3:5
Christ died to pay the fine we owe for the violation of God’s law, to purge the wickedness out of us; to endure the debt we owed so we could experience peace; and thus was wounded – all for the Lord to heal our spirits and draw us back to Him.
Daily, I need to remind myself that my life was bought and paid for. I accepted Jesus as the savior of my life and thus have given my life over to God to do as He would with me; to use me, keep me, and bless me.
Lord! I pray you would use me today to further Your kingdom. May this day, that You have made, be a glorious reminder of Your love for me and for all those around me. Use me to bless Your children and continuously remind me of the sacrifice You made so that I might live – that my life is bought and paid for by Your blood. In the holy name of Christ, I pray. Amen.
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16
As God’s children, we are to be self-controlled and prepare for action and obey. We are not to return to who we were before we knew Christ but to strive continually for holiness, because He is holy.
Any temptations I have that lead me to the life I led before I knew Christ, are to be rejected. My heart was for myself and for the world, not for the One True God. To return to it would mean I leave God. There is the choice ~ our will or God’s will. I choose God.
Lord, no matter what circumstances arise, I trust and am grateful for Your continual reminders. I am thankful that You bring me home and I’m not left wandering and wondering where to go or what to do. Thank you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
“NOT MANY [of you] should become teachers ([a]self-constituted censors and reprovers of others), my brethren, for you know that we [teachers] will be judged by a higher standard and with greater severity [than other people; thus we assume the greater accountability and the more condemnation]. For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.” James 3:1-2
Be prepared, if you should become a teacher, to be held at a higher standard and to experience judgment and condemnation from others. When you teach people, you are holding people accountable and some people will choose to be offended and look down on you in accordance to your failures. The cultivation of self control and use of words will empower us to reach people who want to hear what is being said.
Without even knowing it, I’ve become like a teacher. I have learned things and shared them with others and I’ve certainly experienced my share of judgment and condemnation because of it. It is in this that I see that my tongue is what’s getting me into trouble. The goal for today is to LISTEN AND PRAY ~ THEN speak.
So Lord, knowing that my tongue is can get away from me, I pray for you to empower me to bridle my tongue and word things in a way that is clear and understandable. Thank you for the courage You’ve given me to continue to speak Your truth, Lord. Bless my tongue to do so, and may my words be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
“let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith” Hebrews 12:1b-12a
Remove unnecessary burdens and refuse to take responsibility for things that are not your responsibility to take. Stop sinning and instead run and push through in this life with eyes fixed on Jesus who has given us faith and will bring us to the day of completion.
The yoke of Christ is light, so if I feel weighted down, I’m carrying burdens that I’m instructed to lay down. Repentance can only take place if sin has taken place, therefore my repentance can only occur for MY sin. So then, I turn from MY sin and I don’t walk, but RUN toward the Lord refusing to get distracted by life’s hurdles. No, I jump over them with the strength of Christ until the day I reach the finish line. Some people will race for sport, fund raising and charity events, etc. … how much more should I do this for the sake of eternity with my Lord!
Father God, I pray I would push on and keep my eyes focused on the goal – to reach You. I’m so thankful for the Son and Spirit helping me like breath and water in a physical race. Bless me and keep me, guide me and see me through! In Jesus’ name! Amen.
“By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.” Hebrews 11:24-27
We are to look on in faith at the reward the Lord has to offer because the treasures of Heaven are much greater and are not fleeting like anything the world has to offer.
No sinful pleasures are worth sacrificing what the Lord has to offer.
Lord, bring this to my remembrance when I face any temptation to sin against You. Even the desire to sin is fleeting and You’ve proven the consequences to be much greater than any minor and momentary pleasure. Thank You for Your truth and Your guidance. In Jesus’ holy and matchless name. Amen.
“‘This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,’ then he adds, ‘I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.’ Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.” Hebrews 10:16-18
The covenant of Christ, that comes with repentance and forgiveness, is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which allows communion with God, gives us clarity and power against sin.
It is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that allows me to know the Spirit of God and to experience victory over the sin in my life.
Lord God, I pray for continued clarity and renewed understanding of Your Holy Word. I pray that as I get in the scriptures that You would give me clarity and power against the sin in my life. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
…faith without deeds is dead.
One without the other is useless.
I don’t want to be lukewarm, standing with one foot in the world.
Lord, I repent to You this moment. I know where I’ve gone wrong and I have put off what I knowingly need to change. Forgive me Lord. Amen.
