Search the Deep Things of God

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.  But as it is written:

“ Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.  1 Corinthians 2:7–10

Scripture is the wisdom of God and is revealed to us only through His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things: the deep things of God.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.1 Corinthians 2:14

It is through our spirit that the Word of God is understood, and by merely using our minds, we inevitably rob ourselves of the true blessings of God.

To place my mind under the control of God’s Holy Spirit.  To place myself under the authority of God’s Word.

Father, God, I pray that you would bring this goal to my remembrance: to take authority over the flesh with the aid of Your Holy Spirit and to submit to Your perfect Word.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen.

“The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him”. John 4:23

Break Away the Barrier

“Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way … do I hate” Proverbs 8:13

Pride is a barrier between us and God.

Make myself low, and choose the life of servant-hood.

Father God, I condemn the spirit of pride that’s in me.  I humble myself before you and reveal my heart to you.  Cleanse me of my pride – create in me a humble spirit in all that I do.  Be with me.  I ask this in the Name of the Lord, Jesus.  Amen

“By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life” Proverbs 22:4

Confess and Forsake!

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” Proverbs 28:13

Hiding my imperfections, my sins, will only do harm and never do good!

Exercise patience, kindness, positive words and attitude, and teaching these to my children.

Father God, help me.  Cover me in Your grace and mercy!  Cleanse me of the sins that have tainted this creation of Yours.  Wash me in Your Word and with Your Spirit.  May nothing in me be double-minded; swaying like a boat on the waters; may righteousness be the heritage I leave to my children and nothing less!  I stand firm in You.  In Jesus’ awesome name I pray.  Amen.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin” Psalm 51:1–2

Don’t Procrastinate!

And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. John 17:19

As Jesus did, I must sanctify myself through the truth for the sake of my family.

Abraham lied to Pharaoh by saying that his beautiful wife was his sister and Pharaoh heaped riches on Abraham. There is no record of Abraham’s repentance. Instead he justified his deception by saying Sarah was indeed his half-sister. Did any consequences result from Abraham’s lie?

Yes.  When we read on into the life of Isaac, we see that he felt no shame in LYING the very same lie.  Our choices have generational effects.  What we do effects GENERATIONS after us.  We are representing Christ and modeling repentance, teaches righteousness and integrity in the Lord.

I struggle with the sin of procrastination.  Whenever I ponder this… and procrastinate about dealing with it, a sermon I once heard about the plague of frogs comes to mind.  Moses had warned Pharaoh of the plague of frogs that would come if he didn’t free the Israelites.

“Thus says the LORD: ‘Let My people go, that they may serve Me. But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your territory with frogs.  So the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into your house, into your bedroom, on your bed, into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading bowls.  And the frogs shall come up on you, on your people, and on all your servants.'” Exodus 8:1-4

Pharaoh’s response was “Tomorrow.”

So he said, “Tomorrow.” And he said, “Let it be according to your word, that you may know that there is11 And the frogs shall depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people. They shall remain in the river only.” no one like the LORD our God. Exodus 8:10-11

It might just be me, but if the river was overflowing with frogs and they were coming into my home, my bedroom, on my bed, in my oven, and where I prepared my food – I would not want to wait until TOMORROW for it to stop!  And yet, here I procrastinate SO MANY things in my life as though it were less of a burden than a houseful of FROGS!

My goal for today is to not wait for tomorrow, but to do as I need to, TODAY.

Father God, help me to see what needs to be done and do it.  Help me to do it today and not wait for tomorrow.  For, as Your Word states: you do not know what will happen tomorrow (James 4:14). Lord, help my family to avoid the consequences of my sins by helping me be successful, that they may reap the blessings from my successes!  In the name of Jesus, set apart and full of majesty.  Amen.

to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17

Start Well by Sleeping Well

“The evening and the morning were the first day” Genesis 1:5

Evening is the beginning of our day.  Quality of sleep and mental attitude at bedtime will effect the rest of the day.  We should evaluate our successes of the day before and prepare to meet goals on the following.  Meditating on scripture and focusing our minds on the Lord’s Work and Will is what we need to succeed!

Do devotions tonight and prepare for tomorrow with God in mind.

Father God, give me insight in how to approach the things in my life. My relationship with you is one of many things I’ve neglected in my life.  Please provide me with a clear direction… even if it’s one step at a time it’s better than continueing on the wrong path or circling the same area over and over again.  It is my desire to follow in the way of righteousness!  Be with me.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Our fellowship with God results in repentance; repentance results in blessing; and blessing results in success.

Since Esau could find no place of repentance for simply selling his birthright, why did David find repentance for adultery and murder?

Esau was selfish and wished to recover what he had surrendered while David longed to restore his relationship with God that was interrupted due to the sin in his life.

Repentance is the desperation for God and emptiness we experience when the intimacy has been broken.  We crave to be reconciled with God.  Anything else desired is idolatry… hence we continue in our sinful ways and aren’t truly repentant at all.

Father God, I repent.  Lord, I’ve neglected this precious relationship and I long for your fellowship to return! I’ve given in to worldly desires and have satisfied the flesh in many ways. Forgive me and provide me with strength, compassion, and peace. Bring Your Words to my mind and be with me. Lead me in Your Way of Righteousness. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
