The Start of the School Year

Well, the kids had expressed interest in year-round homeschooling (days off and vacations through out the year instead of chunks in the summer and such), but it just didn’t work out for us this year. Maybe next year! Then we planned to have the start of the school year begin in early August, but I was struggling! I had to attack our schedules and get my health in order, so I attacked my coffee drinking first as well as getting Craeghar’s nap time sorted so I could get more sleep at night.

I am finally starting to feel a bit more energized, despite no coffee, but I still have some organizing to do. School is ready to start once our junk is not stealing our time! lol So I’m packing all things we own that we don’t use, don’t need, and don’t love. Then next spring, I’ll go through and decide what of it all we want to keep or want to get rid of. This will save us the time of organizing and the time of having to continue to clean it! So I’m very thankful for a shed that we can store things in.

So we’ll be starting school on Tuesday, August 29th. We have some workbooks for Language Arts and Math; we’ll be using All-in-One Homeschooling Curriculum for Geography, Zoology, and Health/PE; we’ll be part of a Homeschool Co-op for Library Skills, Maine Studies, and Fine Arts; and I’m trying out a new curriculum that will get us through all the books of the Bible in a year. I’m really excited. My kids love school and can’t wait for it to start, and I can’t wait for them to start either because their excitement for learning gives me so much joy. I’m so proud of them!

This year Katlyn is in 8th grade, Karyn is in 6th grade, and Christopher is in 4th grade.  Kathryn isn’t registered but is working through Kindergarten and 1st grade, and Kimberlyn is working through Pre-Kindergarten. So exciting! I’ll probably be blogging a bit more about it once we start since it will be what fills our days very soon.

Also something I have to plan around, is halfway through the year, we’ll have a new little Whitten to be mindful of! So amazing… a new little baby!!! So please keep us in your prayers as we dive into this new season and new adventure! God is so good. ♥

A Blessing to Connect

I created an account with Sarahah so anyone seeking encouragement, support, or has a question, can do so anonymously if they feel the need.  I would love to be here for others who need someone to talk to.  Simply click on the link address or the image below and it will bring you to the site.  You can also email me at It’s been such a blessing to connect with those of you who have reached out.  Those of you who don’t want to utilize this, I ask that you please pray with me over those who may have a desire to do so – that they’re hearts would find peace and that they would hear clearly from the Lord and know His grace; that my words would be salted with His truth and that God would use me as a vessel to speak to His beloved children.  God bless you!

Pray For Each Other

I have 40 followers on my facebook page and 22 followers on my blog – it truly blesses my heart that my life might touch, inspire, bless, or encourage someone else as they journey through their own lives. If anyone needs prayer, please comment or PM me, I’d love to pray for you!!
“[L Therefore,] Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so God can heal you. ·When a believing person prays, great things happen [L The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective].” James 5:16
“So encourage each other and ·give each other strength [build each other up], just as you are doing now.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Do not ·worry [be anxious] about anything, but pray and ·ask God for everything you need [or make your requests known to God], always giving thanks. And God’s peace, which ·is so great we cannot understand it [transcends/surpasses all comprehension], will ·keep [guard] your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“·Praise [Blessed be] God, who did not ·ignore [turn aside from] my prayer or hold back his ·love [loyalty] from me.” Psalm 66:20
Lord, I lift up all of those who are reading my entries. I ask that You speak life into their hearts and minds, that they would be enlightened and made more aware of your presence, that they would know You more, Lord. Thank You for walking beside them, pursuing them, blessing them, and drawing them. Bring peace to their hearts if they are heartbroken, bring comfort to those in mourning; envelop them in Your joy in the midst of sorrow and a cheerful heart as medicine. Reveal to the lonely that they are not alone, bless them and keep them. In Jesus name. Amen.

I Am Grateful

I am grateful for the gift of being able to be a stay-at-home mom. I am thankful there are other options if I wanted them, but I’m thankful that I’ve been able to be here and pour into the lives of my children in a way that would have been different and possibly more challenging if I was a working-away-from-home mom.
I am grateful for the gift of being able to homeschool. It’s great that there are options available if this was not doable for us, but I’m so glad that I’ve had the opportunity and challenge of teaching and training my children myself rather than having the support of the local school system.
It’s hard… some days it feels impossible… but I truly am grateful. I know that there are many that wish they could have or struggle with feeling as though they should have, or in hindsight would have if they could go back in time. I also know that there are those who find great encouragement in having other options than what they personally feel equipped to handle. For this, I am all the more grateful that we’re making it work, some days feebly, but still working nonetheless.
It’s hard being with my kids nearly all the time… even though I think of them the entire time we’re apart, my brain can get exhausted in the throes of this parenting journey/ministry. So while I’m grateful and appreciate this gift of being able to stay at home and homeschool… I am also in great need of some prayer, especially through the summer when I have less structure! So if you think of me, don’t confuse me with someone who is doing it all with ease or doing it great without constant mistakes… pray for me as I continually pick myself back up after falling on my face; as I dry my own tears while I kiss away boo boo’s; as I apologize for yelling and swearing (again); as I wrestle with selfish desires and immature emotions… pray for me. ❤
Life is hard… and I love my life… but you know… it’s still hard. haha 😉

Prayer Request Please…

Friends, please pray for me. I’ve truly come so far in my healing from the sexual assault I endured at 13, but every now and again, a moment hits me and I feel like I’m grieving what happened all over again. That happened to me not that long ago and now I just feel drained. I hate even thinking about it but I also know if I ignore it, it just sits and festers inside me. Keep your babies safe, friends. Don’t be paranoid but trust your gut and remember that over 90% of reported child sexual assaults takes place by someone the child knows and trusts (and that’s just the reported cases). It’s easy to believe only monsters could do such a thing, but sadly they aren’t always so blatantly obvious as that. The man who assaulted me was my sister’s ex-brother in-law. Known and trusted by her ex-husband’s family for over 20+ years, he worked with my brother in-law and was invited to every wedding, barbecue, family gathering, hunting trip, etc. Sexual assault has a lifelong impact. Be willing to offend to protect your child more than fear being wrong. Thank you, L, for following your instincts and being willing to act to end what was happening to me. ♥ Thank you for the prayers.
